The way to the future is by working. That’s why empowering our neighbors acquire sustainable jobs is essential to a poverty-free future. In the neighborhood Shepherd serves (46201 & 46203 zipcodes), 23% of people live in poverty.
How is Shepherd helping to break that cycle?
– Serving over 150 people every year to find a stable job.
– Launching a WorkLife program to help adult entrepreneurs launch businesses through a 12-week course and intentional “hand-in-hand” mentoring alongside them, including a grant to launch their new businesses at the completion of the course.
– Career and Life Mapping for over 100 middle & high school students, including field trips, apprenticeships, internships, and job experiences to find their fit and passions, keeping them focused on the next stage of life.
– Providing financial, budgeting, and skills training classes at Shepherd to over 100 neighbors annually.
In empowering job stability, there is no one-size-fits-all plan and takes time to build a personal relationship with each neighbor to help them find the job that fits them.
About Shepherd
Shepherd Community Center has served the near Eastside of Indianapolis since 1985 with a simple but staggering mission: to break the cycle of poverty through a Continuum of Care that meets the physical, emotional, spiritual, and academic needs of our neighbors.
Shepherd offers wrap-around services to our neighborhood children, youth, families, and seniors from cradle to career and beyond through intentional services, programs, and relationships. Shepherd believes that by focusing on building deeper relationships within our Shepherd neighborhoods, we will create a more stable, healthy community for all ages.
