Shepherd Community supports neighbors living in poverty, battling an epidemic of loneliness, addiction, and trauma. 23% of Shepherd’s neighbors live in a food desert and 35% are on Medicaid. Behind every statistic is a real person in need of hope. That’s why Shepherd is committed to helping our neighbors be seen, known, and loved by supporting physical and mental health.
How is Shepherd doing this?
– Shalom Project – In partnership with the City of Indianapolis, the Shalom Project pairs a team of an IMPD Officer and an IEMS Medic as first-on-site responders to emergencies in our service areas. This team goes beyond their professions, bringing the hope of Shepherd to our neighbors during emergency needs, offering referrals to Shepherd programs, and helping solve critical problems our neighbors face.
– Counseling for students and families
– Addiction, Trauma, & Domestic Violence Support Groups
– Reset Room at Arsenal Tech High School – In partnership with IPS, Shepherd has a room for high school students to build mentoring relationships, receive guidance, counsel, and authentically connect to address drugs, abuse, trauma, and more.
– Health and physical education activities integrated into all our K-12 academic programs, offering healthy living habits, preventative health knowledge, nutritious meals, and year-round emotional support.
