Stable housing is an essential part of breaking the cycle of poverty. Because stable families create stable futures for our neighborhood children. Each year, Shepherd Community assists families to find stable housing. In 2025, we helped 84 families find stable housing; 84 families who have names, children, jobs, and futures.
As we launch into the next 40 years, we’re making big moves to help our neighbors build foundations of hope and ensure stable housing:
– Advocating and navigating housing-related challenges like rent, utility, and mortgage assistance when there are gaps in employment, medical needs, or other barriers for our neighbors.
– Teaching our neighbors financial literacy, budgeting, saving, and how to care for their homes.
– Building Foundations of Hope, a partnership with Arbor Homes to build 12 new homes/townhouses in our neighborhood
– Launching a multi-year HomeOwner University (HOU) to mentor and walk alongside neighborhood families to qualify and equip them to purchase and maintain these new Building Foundations of Hope homes in our neighborhood as well as advocate alongside of them after purchase.
– Building Warrick Place Apartments, including 11 apartments and one incredible community space for our neighbors to live in affordably.
– Connecting neighbors to create community with one another.
