Jose:
Hello, my name is Jose and welcome to Shepherd Junior News. We are a team of eight journalists that want to share with you, our audience, some of the behind the scenes activities and people at Shepherd community. Today, we’re going to visit the Cooking Club, and also learn about Shepherd’s Teaching Kitchen. Take it away.

Teacher:
Cooking Club. Just a brief overview of what we’re doing today, we’re baking. Two groups are making frosting and then two groups are making cupcakes.

Yannis:
Did you know Shepherd offers free adult family nutrition cooking class to our neighbors?

Teacher:
I need someone to preheat the oven at every station. Hit “bake” on the right, and then go up, hit the “up” arrow so it says 350, and then leave it.

Teacher:
In your bowl, there should be a stick of butter. You poured the baking mix into the bowl. Look at the box. You need to do a half cup of vegetable oil and one cup of water.

Yannis:
Did you know that the teaching kitchen was finished being built in early 2016?

Teacher:
Currently we’ve got some students mixing some eggs into the batter. We’re at the station making the cupcakes and then we’re creaming the butter over here. That’s the beginning of what our cupcake-making is looking like today.

Yannis:
Did you know that students and adults are involved in weekly cooking and nutrition programming here at Shepherd?

Teacher:
So scoop in, one scoop of that for each tray.

Boy:
Dah, dah, dah.

Teacher:
We’re looking at 48 cupcakes total today.
