Speaker 1:
Hi, I’m Jay Height here at Shepherd community, wanting to update you this week. I want to talk and go back in history for a moment to the largest maritime rescue ever. No, I’m not talking about the recently released movie Dunkirk. The largest maritime rescue took place on 9/11 in New York City. Bridges were closed down, tunnels were closed, and hundreds of thousands of folks were stuck and needed to cross the Hudson River. And the Coast Guard put out a plea. We need anyone with a boat and over 500,000 folks were ferried across that day by individuals with their own boats, as well as government boats, everyone pitched in and made a difference.
Speaker 1:
And so today on this road to recovery, I’m going to ask you if you’ll consider pitching in to help us and to help our neighbors. Together, we can make the road to recovery a reality for everyone. And so we need people responding to the call today, just like they did on 9/11. How can you help? Maybe you’re skilled with your hands. You can fix things and we need help there. Maybe you’re willing to call on online and tutor with a student for 45 minutes a week. Maybe you’re willing to come in person and you can come and help tutor.
Speaker 1:
Maybe you’re willing to call a neighbor and encourage. Maybe you’re willing to help us deliver food. We are delivering and in partnership with our great partner Gleaners, getting ready to begin helping deliver to neighbors in this zip code, several hundred more homes, delivering food each week, and we could use your help. You can respond to the call for help, and that’s what we’re making today. Join with us as we help our neighbors on the road to recovery. Call Donna Alexander here at Shepherd Community, or go to her email at donnaa@shepherdcommunity.org, or call her at (317) 375-0203. We have a place where you can fit in to help our neighbors on the road to recovery.
