Jay Height:
Hi, I’m Jay Height here at Shepherd Community. It’s February and it’s cold and we’ve had some snow. But I want to give you an update on the road to recovery, what exciting things are happening as we’re helping our families get retrained, upskilled and back into the workforce. We’re helping 29 on their job search. We have two that are in training right now, 80 have been referred to training, 12 have completed their training, we have five in our Jobs for Life class taught by volunteers. We have 55 in ESL classes, we have five who are pursuing higher ed and we have 13 who’ve been employed.

Jay Height:
We are excited by what’s happening, but we know that there’s much more work to be done. We’re excited and if you’re interested, you can contact us and we can share with you our work plan, a 35-page document that we’ve worked with Thomas P. Miller & Associates to develop, where we’re working with the state, we’re working with EmployIndy, we’re working with Asin, lots of employers to help our families get the skills they need and re-enter the workforce.

Jay Height:
This last year has been difficult on employment, but we’re excited to help them move forward. And we’re putting resources together to help them stay employed, if they’re working, or get employed. The state uses a phrase, ABC, a job, better job, career. We want them working and we’ll support that with our compassionate assistance funds and help them continue to move forward so they can provide for their families. Maybe you have some employment opportunities that you can let us know, or you know of some opportunities that our families could pursue. We want to get them working. That’s sustainable and we are on the road to recovery together. Won’t you join us?
