Jay Height:
Good morning. You can see a lot of effort going into this morning and us getting food out to many families. Today we’ll distribute groceries, boxes of food to over 500 families. We started at nine o’clock this morning, and by eight o’clock we already had a line and know that we’ll go through this groceries quickly.
Jay Height:
We are thankful for the partnership with Gleaners, with Safeway groceries, who helped us in securing the food necessary for today. Hatch, that’s helping us provide eggs for all of the family. Hunger is an unfortunate reality in this crisis, and we are doing everything we can to meet that need. We appreciate so many folks who are helping. And we’re also doing sack breakfast, sack lunches for students. Thankfully, to a partnership with Second Helpings, we’re now providing the dinner meal each day for families, that started on Monday. And so we will continue to do what we can and we need your help.
Jay Height:
I am thankful also for the opportunity for us to engage in the lives of our families by calling them each week to make sure that the loneliness that is going to be part of this social isolation does not begin to tear apart the families and the lives of those that we care so desperately about. We are continuing to push out information to our students and continue in the e-learning so that they do not have a learning loss during this very challenging time.
Jay Height:
I am thankful for those who provided the resources so we could get computers into the homes of our students. We appreciate Spectrum in making sure that our students could get free wifi, free internet if they couldn’t afford it themselves. Our team is also busy working with the many health issues that are not Corona related but are neighborhood-related and making sure that they’re getting their medicines, and we’re advocating and working with the systems. We are blessed with great leadership in our city. We appreciate the opportunity to partner with them and want to continue to move this on.
Jay Height:
We also appreciate we received some funds through the fund that was created by many folks that is being housed at the United Way, and we’ll be able to help our families with many of their income support, their bills, making sure that they can get signed up for unemployment. We appreciate the state, who’s simplified that process to make it easier for unemployment benefits. This is unprecedented times. Jane and I in our 25 years here have not seen a place, have not seen a time like this, but I am thankful that we can be here and I am thankful that you’re making it possible. Continue to let us know if you want to help and we’ll continue to be faithful with everything we can. Thank you.
