Jay Height:
Hello and welcome to Shepherd Community. I’m Jay Height, and we’ve got a special guest for you. Join me. Indy!

Indy:
Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Check it out. Check it out. I’m here hanging out with Pastor Jay. How are you?

Jay Height:
Okay, Indy. It’s good to have you. You know what? I brought you some special gifts.

Indy:
Oh, he brought me a gift. I can’t wait to see what it is. What? Oh, peanuts!

Jay Height:
I heard you wanted to be paid in peanuts.

Indy:
Yeah, I’ve been working for peanuts most of my life, so I appreciate it.

Jay Height:
Well, that’s what I heard. Indy, we appreciate all that you’re doing. You’re teaching our kids about character qualities, and we appreciate that. I wanted to talk just a minute with you, and to those who have been so important to the life of Shepherd and our families. COVID’s been tough on kids, hasn’t it?

Indy:
Yes, it’s been a very difficult time.

Jay Height:
There’s an old adage that says, “Birds of a feather flock together,” and we haven’t been able to flock together for quite some time.

Indy:
No, we haven’t, and it’s so important for us to be together, to be together as families, to be together as a community. It’s important to flock together.

Jay Height:
So we are excited that we’re back in our summer camp, and you’ll get to see more about that, of how the kids are coming together, and we’re being safe and doing all the things. There’s a scientific term called ACEs, adverse childhood experiences. I don’t know if it’s called BACEs. Is it bird adverse childhood experience? I don’t know.

Indy:
Yeah, could be. Could be. Could be.

Jay Height:
But this idea that kids… It’s PTSD for kids, and those scores have increased, and we’re trying to work with some experts to figure out how we can better help our kids and all of the kids in the community. Indy, tell us a little bit about what you think would be a great summer for kids.

Indy:
I think a great summer for kids would start with us getting together each and every day, right? Yeah, coming together with our friends, right? And then doing things that are fun. Yeah, doing a lot of fun activities and some learning, but doing a lot of fun things together, like playing games and singing songs, maybe even getting to do some crafts. Anything fun together with my friends and with great leaders, that makes for a fantastic summer.

Jay Height:
Yeah, and we’re working to help them catch up academically. It’s a busy summer, and you just described a summer at Shepherd Community. It’s a great time. A lot of folks are making that possible, and we appreciate that. Indy, what else do you think we should know about kids today and how we as adults can help them?

Indy:
Well, I think the most important thing to know is that kids are people too. They are. Kids are people. Sometimes it’s easiest to just go, “Oh, you know, they’re just kids.” But no, they’re people. They have feelings like adults, and they need love and care, more love and care. So remember, kids are people too. Their opinions matter, so pay attention to what they say and hear what they’re feeling and know that what you do to give your time and energy and love will make all the difference in their lives.

Jay Height:
Well, Indy, I appreciate you’re investing in our kids and partnering with us. I was checking out your old place. Is it Twin Branch?

Indy:
Twin Branch, yeah.

Jay Height:
I think it was on one of those cool makeover shows, and they’ve been doing some nice things to your old nest.

Indy:
Really? I didn’t know that.

Jay Height:
Yeah, I forget which one of the shows. My wife watches them all on HGTV. I don’t know if they have that on your bird channels.

Indy:
Yeah, yeah. Yeah, we got that one. That’s a good channel. Yeah, yeah.

Jay Height:
So they’ve done some really nice things. You’ll have to go back home and check it out.

Indy:
Oh, I can’t wait to see that. Hopefully they got the… Maybe they put a Jacuzzi in.

Jay Height:
Do birds use Jacuzzi?

Indy:
Yes, we call them hot bird baths.

Jay Height:
Okay. well, we appreciate all your support. It is together, we’re on this road to recovery. Won’t you join us?
