Speaker 1:
Greetings this hot week here in Indianapolis. Lots of happenings with the kids at Shepherd Community and we’re excited to update you. This is our first week where kids are actually on site and we’re partnering with SpringHill to provide creative ways for our students to connect with fun and continue learning. Our commitment is to make up for the amazing loss this past school year through our out of school learning time, both in afterschool and during the summer months. We’ve been working through online services of tutoring our kids, continuing to provide academic support so that they can try to not have the traditional learning loss, but instead they are actually moving forward. And we hope that over the next couple of years, we’re working on a plan to move our kids to be where they should be and to not accept the loss that has happened because of COVID.

Speaker 1:
We can do that in a combination of both in school, as well as out-of-school learning time, whether it’s the school here at Shepherd Community, the School 58, the IPS school that we work with, we’re committed to helping educate a neighborhood and working with those middle school and high school students, as well as also working with their families. I’m going to tell you, the kids need this. This is a great week for them. And we appreciate our partners who made it possible for SpringHill to be here to provide these very unique opportunities. The summer is a fun time. It was for all of us in our youth, and it should be for our kids. And we’re trying to bring that together and making sure it’s safe with all of the heat of the day.

Speaker 1:
We appreciate many of you who stepped forward in making sure we have bottled water for our students and will for the next year. We can’t use our drinking fountains as we try to make sure it’s the safest environment. We’re trying to recognize social distancing rules and continue to provide for each of them mask and all of the rest of the support that’s necessary during these difficult times. I hope you stay cool and have a great safe July.
