VIDEO: Christmas Food Pantry

Erik Barnett:
We just really want to say thank you. This kind of effort doesn’t happen with just Gleaners or just Shepherd. It’s a partnership between tons of different groups, all the volunteers that come in. This is a true community effort, and we really appreciate the whole community helping out.

Andrew Green:
We’re hoping to work with 400 households today. So a lot of the pantries in our neighborhood, including ours are not open on some of the holidays. And so we decided this year to partner with Gleaners, just letting families know that they can come and get some great food. We also have some blankets that were given out to families and some books as well.

Erik Barnett:
A distribution like this can take 20 to 25 people easily, and no community center that we know has that kind of capacity.

Andrew Green:
Gleaners has been a great partner for us. We already do mobile care pantries with them in the summer where we have generally between 300, 400 families that come on each week of the summer. We love working with them and love what they do and are grateful that they worked with us on this event today.

Erik Barnett:
Shepherd Community has been a long-term partner of ours. They’re in an area with some high need, but they have been a long-term partner. They’ve done a great job getting this food out into the community, and that’s what we need.
