MLK Day

Thanks to Governor Pence, Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann, and more than 140 state employees who donated their paid time off to spend the day with our kids at Shepherd on Friday, January 15, 2016. For the 5th Annual MLK Day of Service, the Governor and his team graciously gave their time to read to the children as well as wash our students feet and then fit them for new shoes and socks. They were all public servants. And the kids loved every moment of it.

One especially impactful moment came when Governor Pence finished reading a book to one of our Academy classes. Then he told the class he had a secret to tell them. The whole class ran up around him real close and said, “Anyone can become anyone. No matter who you are or where you come from, you can become whoever you want to be.” What an amazing declaration of hope for our kids!

This is just one of many amazing stories we have to share from this day of service. Glad to have folks like this in our state government. A single day of service will have a lasting impact on our kids. Amazing, isn’t it?
