Jay Height:
Hi, it’s Jay Height here. It’s a busy day at Shepherd Community as we continue to work to meet the needs of our community and of our neighbors. We’re excited to be doing a lot more than just food. Many of our neighbors have dealt with landlords who are taking advantage of them, and despite the governor’s orders and the mayor helping to enforce it, have tried to evict them. But I want you to know, thanks to a partnership with INHP, we were given a home just a little over a year ago. We’ve renovated that. And one of our families moved into one side, the other has moved into the other. And so we have two families living in that double. We have another lady who’s helping deliver food, moved into one of our houses.

And so it is a continued effort for many of us working together. It is a rainy wet day here at the East Side. We’re also excited as school is beginning to end, our team and our out of school learning team is already making amazing plans for both the summer and how we continue to engage the kids in off-school hours. Many of that staff are going out to the kids’ homes, writing the messages on the sidewalk with sidewalk chalk, helping us to make sure we’re staying connected. We want you to know that our counselors are also calling on our neighbors, checking with those who may have needs of some mental health challenges. We want to engage in all of the needs of our neighbors. But what I’m excited about is we’re on the road to recovery. Come join with us as we travel that road together with our neighbors.
