We believe that volunteering can be life-changing as well as life-giving. That’s why our program seeks to train and teach volunteers as they grow in understanding of the realities of generational poverty. Our goal is to provide every volunteer with a high-impact volunteer experience.

GET STARTED
Volunteering at Shepherd
Getting started as a volunteer at Shepherd Community is simple and easy. For most individuals, families, and groups, the entire process for a one-time volunteering opportunity typically takes only a few days, from the start of the application to serving.
First, complete the application form, sign up for limited text messages, and sign our mandatory waiver. Upon approval, you will receive an email confirmation that includes a link to your Volunteer Profile, allowing you to begin volunteering at most of our one-time events.
For those interested in volunteering for our daily/weekly opportunities, after your approved application, you’ll arrange a time to visit Shepherd for a tour, brief training, and an opportunity to observe some of our programs in action. This will help us find a good fit for your schedule, skills, and passions, and get you plugged in quickly.
If you choose to serve in any of our student programming (Shepherd Community Academy, Minnie Hartmann, After-School, and others), you’ll also need to complete a background check in addition to the aforementioned requirements. You will receive an email confirming your background check approval, which will be automatically updated on your Volunteer Profile, allowing you to start serving with our students immediately.
