Politics and Love

Are you weary of the campaigns? I am! Somehow we have lost the decorum and honor of the past.

I was reading “The Relevance of Religion” a book by Former US Senator John Ashcroft.

In it he says,”…certainly, politics is important and is worthy doing well, but the exaggerated claims of politicians that their favored policies will miraculously solve our problems create exaggerated expectations, and perpetually disappointed expectations create public cynicism.”

Well stated, John. I totally agree. We hear promises, plans, and policies. What we need is action! We hear about love, but folks seem to forget love is a an action word.

So how do I love my neighbor? How do I love my wife, my children?

I John 3:18 says, “Dear children, let us not love with word or speech, but with actions and in truth.”

Fewer debates and sound bites, and more volunteering. More listening and more loving. Maybe then we will solve the challenges of our country.
