08 Oct Food for Fall Break
Quite honestly, I don’t remember fall break, but then again I didn’t start school until after Labor Day. Guess I’m old!
Fall break started for our After-School kids this week and our K3 – 5th grade Academy joins them on break next week. We sure do miss the sounds of their joyful voices, but we’re happy they have a much-needed break. They have all worked so hard.
According to the USDA, 8 out of 10 children in our neighborhoods only have 2 meals a day when they are in school. But we wouldn’t let that be our kids!
Thanks to a generous partnership with Elanco, more than 500 Shepherd kids received food totes with enough food items to last them through their entire fall break. We ensured our kids would not go hungry or lose the nutrition they need on a daily basis.
Thanks to great friends, a difference is made in meeting the basic needs of our neighbors.
Food totes aren’t the ultimate solution, but they are a key part of the answer to breaking the cycle of poverty!
