I’ve heard that question many times, and the answer is simple: You have to have a pair of boots to have bootstraps!
We tell our families to get a job or to get job training, but for what? There are no jobs in the neighborhood. Many do not have a vehicle to get them to where the jobs are. There are so many challenges, so what can they do? Our neighbors want to help themselves, but lack the resources to do so.
Our Shepherd staff and partners are focusing on providing the training and transportation to help our neighbors get a job. We are also working to bring the jobs to the neighborhood. It’s a big task and challenge, but key to helping our neighbors pull themselves up by their bootstraps!
