Shepherd Community Center

Middle School

After School

This is a fairly young program at Shepherd Community Center; the 2006-2007 school year is its third year running. It consists of 14 seventh and eighth graders from various IPS schools. The program has a long waiting list that unfortunately will only grow longer unless Shepherd Community Center can acquire an additional passenger van or small bus.

Mimi Wacker, the Director of the Program, has made it possible for these 14 bright-eyed students to be part of our Shepherd family by picking most of them up everyday after school and then returning them home safely in the evening once the program as concluded, without this option the students would not have a way to come to the program.

Once all the kids have come together they have dinner, homework time, and an educational/spiritual club such as:

  • Step/Dance
  • Electronics
  • Sports
  • Crafts
  • Bible Study

They also use a computer based tutoring program, PLATO, to assess where the student is academically in a particular subject and then customizes a tutoring program for the individual child. The middle school students have two college prep days to get them thinking about higher education as an achievable goal.

Summer Day Camp

The summer is full of fun activities for our Middle School Students. A nine week program jammed pack with trips, bible study, educational workshops, and job experience offers a wide variety to make any summer fun. Lunch and an afternoon snack is always provided.
